UPDATE: 24 APRIL 2008
NAKMAS was assessed for the Foundation Level in May and this was verified in June. NAKMAS received news early in July 2008 that we have achieved the Foundation Level of the Equality Standard for Sport. We are now moving onto the Preliminary Level. A new data collection process will start to come out to members within the month, and the results of the first questionnaires plus the new data will be made into a plan which the Management Committee will be acting on .. We hope to encourage more members of diversity within NAKMAS, and in turn clubs and groups within membership do the same to encourage students at grassroots.
Thank for continuing to support our striving for equality within martial arts.

COMMITMENT TO THE EQUALITY STANDARD
In March 2006, NAKMAS committed to achieving the Equality Standard for Sport. Sport politics have hindered this commitment. However, thanks to the tireless intervention of the Central Council for Physical Recreation (CCPR), the issue has now been resolved. Unfortunately the guidelines have been updated and assessment methods changed. Therefore much of the initial work has to be redone to ensure currency for assessment.
NAKMAS would like to announce its renewed Commitment to achieving the Standard. Sandra J Beale MAEd PGCertAS CertEd remains the lead officer, accountable for equality within NAKMAS, along with an internal Equality Team. The Management Committee are also committed to ensure that equality/equity is paramount during discussion or consideration of any issues.
The Equality Policy is now under review and any developments will be communicated in due course. The reviewed and amended Policy will appear on the website, and sent out to all direct members once it has been approved and rewritten.
Members will be informed of developments through this website, and through internal Reviews and News Briefs. Thank you for your co-operation.
